Raising loans is a critical process for MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) business owners, and there are several common mistakes that can hinder their success. Here are three aspects often overlooked by MSME business owners while raising loans:


1.       Inadequate Business Plan

Often MSME Business Owners feel that Business Plan is required to be prepared for lenders for obtaining loan. The importance of not having adequate business plan is one of the main reasons, the MSME business owners face a lot of trouble in raising funds. The MSME Business owners are in most time unable to document the business plan which remains in their mind which results in drastic difference between what the MSME Business owners wants and what his team is delivering. It is utmost importance that business owners work on business plan which can be simple but which involves participation of both internal stake holders that staff and external stakeholders like vendors, banks and their consultants.

 

2.       Failing to Seek Professional Advice

Many MSME owners attempt to handle the loan process independently without consulting financial advisors, accountants, or legal experts, resulting in mistakes that could have been avoided. It has been observed that due to wrong advice from unqualified professionals the MSME business owners have resorted to high rate of interest, shorter duration unsecured loan which has deeply affected the financial position of many business owners.

 

3.       Poor Credit History Management

Neglecting personal or business credit scores can result in higher interest rates or outright rejection. Regular monitoring and management of credit history are essential. It has been seen that credit score which was neglected in the past surfaces as major hinderance for current fund raising for MSME Business Owners. Furthermore, they also fall trap to fraudulent person who promise to improve their credit score or promise fund raising from non-transparent sources which in many cases leads to waste of time and money to MSME Business Owners.
